The Twickenham Riverside -update

A section of the Riverside cleared and ready for opening

The new Tory led council have opened a small part of the Twickenham riverside for public usage. Whilst the section is only a small and accessible part of the site it is nonetheless a start in re-opening the area. Added to this the council are inviting members of the community to give their ideas on the riverside and this is taking part from 10.00 am – 10.00 pm each day between 22 July and 24 July at the civic centre in York St. Councillors and council officers will be on hand to discuss requirements and to give criteria that should be considered to any would be ideas. The leader of the council Nick True said of the process;

“I call this a barefoot consultation as the agenda will be set by local people. It will be a very different type of council consultation.

“We have absolutely no preconceptions about what it will produce, it will be an open forum for people to tell us what they want.

“We want as many people as possible to come along, tell us exactly what they think.

“My only promise at this stage is that this council will listen and it will make major decisions with residents, not in spite of them.”

So the new future for the Twickenham riverside begins and certainly there seems to be a more harmonious approach to the derelict site than with the previous administration.
