The notion of Arcadia in relation to the area of South West London along the Thames was an 18th Century conceit on the Greek meaning of the word Arcadia.
The area between Teddington and Kew in past times was characterised by Royal Palaces, Meadows and woodland set against the Thames, much of which still exists today.
